ABOUT US |
Biomedical research is an essential activity to ensure therapeutic development and health progress. It is governed by two fundamental principles: the methodological correction of the research project and the respect for the ethical postulates developed in recent decades (the Declaration of Helsinki, the Nuremberg Code, the Belmont Report) as a guarantee that protects the rights of the subjects participating in any type of investigation.
The fundamental mission of the Research Ethics Committee (REC) consists in ensuring that research involving humans is correctly conducted from a methodological, ethical and legal standpoint. Its other main goal is to guarantee the protection of research subjects so that the principles of justice, beneficence and autonomy are respected.

The Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital Research Ethics Committee was accredited for the first time on 13 December 1993 by the Department of Health of Catalonia. Currently, the REC maintains its accreditation, which was renewed on 21 February 2018 and it allows the REC to act as an Ethics Committee for Research with medicinal products (CEIm in Spanish). Its activity is developed based on Standard Operating Procedures, which are public and available for consultation at the Technical Secretariat office.
